Chester-le-Street Heritage Group Web site.

This is our new web site (July 2014), which is currently under construction and will be updated regularly, so please keep visiting to see what new items have been installed.

Here you will find pages with subjects on local history covering Chester-le-Street and the surrounding area, useful links to help you with your research, News & Event items and details of Heritage Group Meetings and Drop-In Sessions.

Durham In Time Web site.

Chester-le-Street Heritage Group have been allocated some pages on Durham County Council’s “Durham In Time” project web site which provides space for a number of local history group’s and societies.

One of the features of the web space provided by the Durham In Time site, is the inclusion of the “What Wonderful Women” project, which was promoted by the now abolished Chester-le-Street District Council. It highlights the contribution made to society by the Wonderful Women of Chester-le-Street and the surrounding area. Well worth a look.

Up & Down The Street Web site

This web site is the result of the Heritage Group’s research into the individual premises that make up the Front Street of our town going back as far as possible in history. The research involved reference to Census records, Trade Directories and newspapers including the Chester-le-Street Chronicles.

This project is still a “work in progress” and will hopefully reflect the ever changing faces of the Front Street right up to the present day and into the future.
